Department of Human Genetics

The Department of Human Genetics performs groundbreaking research into the relationship between genes and diseases, notably concerning blindness and deafness, cancer, congenital anomalies, and mental handicaps. To identify and functionally characterize novel disease genes, we utilize a combination of biochemistry, genomics technologies, molecular biology, cell biology, and developmental systems such as Drosophila melanogaster, zebrafish and mouse. These studies will also uncover therapeutic strategies. We have created a friendly, stimulating interdisciplinary research environment hosting groups that lead their fields. If you would like to visit or join our research group, we encourage you to contact us.

Department of Cognitive Neuroscience

The Cognitive Neuroscience departement participates in the Donders Centre of Neuroscience of the UMC St Radboud and the Radboud University Nijmegen. The Centre of Neuroscience is part of the Donders Institute for Brain Cognition and Behaviour, together with  the Centre for Cognition and the Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. There is a close collaboration with the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS).

Department of Psychiatry

The main research topic of the Department of Psychiatry can be summarized as: research of (mal)adaptive processes of cognitive and emotional control in behavior, which are the basis of psychiatric disorders. Subthemes are for instance: Adaption and consolidation, and reaction patterns. This topic also focuses on genetic and environmental determinants of differences between individuals and their appraisal of, and reaction to stimuli.
