I opened the registration of new accounts on the wiki a few days ago. I just noticed that we have about 2000 new users, and a huge amount of junk pages. Both the users and the content need to be cleaned up.

priorities 1) ensure that we don't get more spam a) prevent new registrations b) remove malicious user accounts 2) clean up content a) search and remove junk pages b) search for junk content on existing pages

regarding 1a: done regarding 1b: given the large number of spam "users", I will do this on the system level > cp users.auth.php users.auth.backup20141029 after weeding out yahoo, hotmail, nokiamail, gmx, ru and other suspicions addresses, I figured out that only the person from BESA was a legitimate registration. I opened registration for him and his colleagues, not realising the hord of zombies waiting for the opportunity. I removed all recent registrations, kept the one from BESA. regarding 2a, one type of junk pages are "profile" pages using wiki admin rights -> config -> revert manager, I was able to remove them. I also noticed all spam pages to contain "http" links. I believe that only people that are logged in are allowed to use the text http on a page. Hmm, the revert manager is not doing what I want. I'll go to the command line. 1048 mkdir ../../junk 1050 sudo mv profile_* ../../junk 1053 sudo mv life_insurance_* ../../junk 1054 sudo mv your_* ../../junk 1055 sudo mv you_* ../../junk 1057 sudo mv wonderful_* ../../junk this takes too long. I sorted them on date of creation/modification and removed most (except video, menu and another one) that were made on 29 Oct. did you know how_acupressure_can_enable_your_eyes.txt?

most of the junk was at the top level. There is some at a lower level, e.g. /getting_started/eeprobe.txt ./getting_started/bdf.txt ./getting_started/profile_miloelyard ./getting_started/profile_miloelyard/the_force_makes_the_particular_bags_fall_partially_causing_your_dust.txt ./getting_started/egi.txt ./getting_started/profile_clarissapersing ./getting_started/profile_clarissapersing/being_some_sort_of_weekly_philanthropist_at_this_store_i_get.txt I also removed that. going to recent changes on the wiki, I saw that http://fieldtrip.fcdonders.nl/tutorial/networkanalysis got messed up by my cleanups. I restored it from (what I guess) the most recent correct version.

I believe the situation to be under control again. Please keep your eyes open to spam on the wiki.
